I don't like weight on tanks. Put the weight on your waist and shoulders of your harness. If you have heavy tanks and you are lite when you take a tank off you are no longer neutral!!! You really need to be trim and neutral with no tanks.

Charles, keep us posted how your and Mike's SM dives work out with the 80s.

    Thanks for your help.
I used a piece of webbing with some grommets on it down the center of my back, not pulling my shoulders or my butt down. I only ended up needing 5 lbs. This method put it dead center on me and felt perfectly trimmed. I just bolted the ends, via the grommets on the webbing, into the soft plate grommets.

Scott was on our March trip and borrowed a spare webbing-with-grommets for the whole week and seemed to like it as well.

The others on our trip had weights on their tanks, and that seemed to work for them, too.

Here are two of us with different weighting: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pi...&id=1235958353

On the left, you can see Marbry with weights attached to his tanks. On the right, look in the middle of my back and you'll see the lead square.

Thanks Mike and Shirley. I dive with steels but next month, I plan to practice with 80s so this will shorten the learning curve.

Guess I have to side with Mike. Be able to put the weights on your back and not the tanks. Like he said if you take a tank off then you loose your weight. This way you will always have the weight with you and be set no matter how many tanks you take off to push through a small hole.

Like my little sis said, Hmm wonder where she got that idea from me or Adam, ????

Take a peice of webbing, burn a hole in it and attach them to the center hole of your back and run them down in a upside down V to the holes in your butt pad and sleave some length to take in account of the weight and then bolt them back there. Use SS if conectors if you can.

    Thanks Slim,

Yeah, I quickly eliminated weights on the tanks based on Mikes comments. I like what you and Shirley described and will play with that and probably weights on my waist too.

    Sandy,
What side mount harness style are you using? You will probably need to experiment with the placement of the lead to get your trim just right. Unfortunately, Charles and I will be diving neutral bouyant AL 80's this weekend because that is all that I have at the shop in the AL realm but it will get us pretty close.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Mike, I have a Nomad EXP with 4 pounds on the shoulders. I have a 9' pool where I may be able to experiment but I hate to put my gear in chlorine. I have access to a lake where I can find the correct weight and then make some trim adjustments in a shallow freshwater pool. I will probably try to do that before my May dive trips. Still trying to decide between wet and dry so I will test both.

Where are you diving this weekend?

    Safe diving,

We'll be at Peacock and maybe Cow. We are staying at one of Bill Rennaker's trailers so we have an extra bedroom if you want to join us for some practice.

Yep, they were Adam's. He uses them in a V like you, but it worked better for me to just use one down the miiddle. Guess he's going to be short one this trip

Now.....where did I put those yoke adapters.....? >>>dances off singing "I'm going back to Mexico, nah nah nah nah na nah!"<<<

The shoulder weights may be a problem when going from heavy steel to light aluminum tanks. You may need to have them lower to stay in trim.

Depending on how tall you are, a weight belt may work as well as anything.
