Default Upcoming Line Changes at Peacock Springs State Park

Sometime within the next week there will be some line changes made between Peacock I(P1) and Olsen Sink. Some of the North Florida Springs Alliance (NFSA) line committee members will place back to back arrows at the half way point between Peacock I and Pothole sink, indicating the halfway point between these 2 points.

The line arrows between P1 and Olsen will indicate the distance and direction to the closest exit point. There will be a small sign on the upline at Pothole indicating it is an emergency exit only.

The back to back arrows between Pothole and Olsen will be altered to indicate the halfway point between Pothole sink and Olsen sink.

On the day that the changes are being made there will be a notice posted at P1 and Orange Grove Sink to ensure divers know the changes are being made.

As we firm up the exact date these changes will be made we will attempt to notify as many divers as possible through various website, and e-mail announcements.

No other changes other than the ones described above will be made.

These line changes have been approved by the PSSP Manager.

I haven't been diving caves very long but after getting several earfuls after a trip to Mexico about what goes on there, and considering the possibilities of the things that do go on, it's sure nice to see you proactively alerting as many people as possible and that this is being done by committee. Sure, I'm new, and maybe this is a regular thing but I sure appreciate it, especially since I'll be diving Peacock in the very near future. Thanks for the effort, Jim.

Jim, I think it is a great idea as Pothole is a very viable place to surface in an emergency.

When you say "emergency exit only", I assume divers can still surface there like they would in Challenge, Waterhole, Olsen, etc (surface and continue the dive without exiting the water). Is that correct?

AFAIK that is a correct assumption.

Getting out at Pothole, unless an emergency would likely be frowned upon, due to erosion considerations.
