My name is Shirley Kasser Creech and I approve this message. Well, at least one of me does, anyway. Maybe. Fire. Sharp things. Squirrel!
Shirley you're not serious? No, I'm not, but do stop calling me Shirley.
I finally found the spool my demo line came on. The hole is from putting an axle in to put the line on my primary reel. Picture below.
It was custom made by Cortland line co. http://www.cortlandline.com
I still don't know the price. The spool I have says "Dacron Cave Diving Line, 50 yards, Break strength 325#, dia. avg .095, elong. avg 40.6% (at break)
I am going to order a bunch as soon as I find a price. Notice it is about the size of #24 nylon, but has the strength of #36. FWIW, goldline is about 800 #.
This dacron line does *not* float, it is neutral in the water, and a good bit stiffer than nylon. I shot a picture with a loop standing above my primary reel, so you can see how stiff it is. It handles very well in the water, and does NOT tangle as easily as nylon line.
The designer told me that some color was necessary, for strength, IIRC. It doesn't have to be yellow, but that is what they are using in MX.
I know Sheck recommended nylon line, but this line didn't exist at that time.
looks really good, I would like to order a bunch too.
Do you think it is more resistant to abrasion than nylon? some caves here have razor sharp rock and this stuff seems like it would be better.
Here's a couple of links.
