Unfortunately this isn't necessarily true. If there are pigtails on the tops of the clinders, then the gas will migrate straight to the point of lowest pressure, i.e. the whip. There'll be mild dilution from the gas from the banks, but only mild.

So, I suspect that a surprisingly large percentage of the gas being pumped right then will appear immediately at the whip.

Please note - I'm making a generic statement here, this is in no way a commentary on the current situation.
Filling rapidly from a bank might actually mobilize oil mist condensed in a whip as well. I wouldn't treat banks as more or less likely to generate contamination. Its just different.

Even though I have a sucky Alkin w31, I am damn glad to have complete control over the filter status.

    Yes Sam, it does!

We just received our final analysis back from the lab and "upon further review" our gas is fine! I'll be printing up the relevant forms and posting them in the shop in a couple of minutes for our customer's review.....

I also wished to point out that SINCE that gas sample was taken last Thursday, we have installed two additional filtration areas in our compressor/bank system as we strive to bring you the best possible product. We've added filtration between the compressor and the banks and also filtration between the banks and the whips.

We're officially open again so I hope to see y'all this weekend and thanks again for all the support.....

    Safe diving,

Awesome precautions! The only rumors that should fly now is that your gas is too clean to breathe--rather, it should be bottled and exhibited in a museum. Great work!

Rich, Great news but honestly that's the result that the vast majority of us knew it would be. Glad to know those fill whips will be back working again! (they looked sort of lonely just "hangin' around")

    See ya' soon!

Great, now all of us from Los Angeles will be getting sick. We're not used to clean air, so please throw the socks, jock straps, and dead animals that OFG mentioned back in the system before we come out again this summer.

    Default cost of testing

My office runs outside company tests each month of our autoclave.
We also "test" it every time we use it.

I understand that an air compressor is not an autoclave, but the "need to know is similar"
How easy is it to send in a test sample and what is the cost?

I am curious that rumors start and immediately tests are run. In my profession we run tests to prevent rumors and protect our clients.

Its not difficult at all (if you follow simple directions). The good labs supply the bottle and charge roughly $125-150 a sample.

It would be prohibitively expensive to test the gas every time a tank was filled, and test results would be back long after the gas was breathed, in most cases.

Every day, Rich's gas is tested by divers using it, in a variety of situations underwater. I have hundreds of hours on his gas and I think anyone who has spent an hour hanging out talking with Rich (because unlike many people in cave country, he's nice) knows that East sees plenty of business.

Rich runs tests of his gas just as often as any gas station--ask him and he'll show you his latest testing results. Give him a call and I bet he'll dig up numbers from as far back as you want to wait on the phone for. Infact, I believe his last results are displayed where they are easy to read, unlike some places that have them hidden in the compressor room or in the back office. He ran an extra set of tests because some people were making serious claims that he had to address. Now that those claims have been addressed...well I would mention how damaging slander is to a business, but it's better to ask, why aren't the people who started the rumors, still attempting to spread them?

I heard a rumor that every compressor in North Florida has been having problems recently, oil in tanks, people having problems all over the place.

^well, I guess Me can't get gas anywhere in Florida, now that there is officially a rumor out...(lighten up a little guys, don't get your drysuit undies in a wad over rumors)
