I use a scuba pro inflator on my instructor rig, but I use the DGX 45* generic inflator on my cave wing and sidemount rig.
The AIR2 certainly has a different connection, I believe all brands of octo/inflator combos have different connections than a standard power inflator, but there may be no more than 4-5 different types (?)
I’m not sure what the adapter from DGX you are speaking about. What Scubapro has that is proprietary is that the chuck(adapter) can be unscrewed from the LP hose and would fit any standard regulator LP hose, as opposed to the permanently crimped versions, the connection to the inflator nipple is still the standard/universal one.
I've had it on two inflators now that the nipple came loose. I'm generally not a friend of metal screws into plastic, and inflators around here are more than $16, so I'm not quite that quick to throw them out. But I have trashed one in the same way you did and stripped it.
