The incineration of medical waste is not the best plan. It is believed to produce carcinogenic gas. Many states and countries are currently closing down incineration plants. I don't know the particulars, but in Europe they've developed a "working paper."

Attended organizational meeting of local qroup opposing the incinerators this afternoon. Several hundred attendees; fairly productive, lots of pep talk, set up various committies and assigned responsibilities. I'm on Petitions committee. One County Commissioner attended; thinks 3 out of 5 Commissioners likely to vote against having incinerators in Suwannee County but cautions against slacking off opposition until final vote taken. Talked with him after meeting; suggest petitions from NFSA members will be most efective if comments include reasons for visiting Suwannee County (cave diving/eco-tourism) since all elected officials tend to disregard petitions from non-voters but this Commission actively promotes eco-tourism.

Good point John. These counties off the I75 Disney corridor only have ecotourism as their draw, and since much of the money that supports Florida comes from the tourist dollar, they respond well to nonresidents. It would be great if you could post some addresses that people on CDF could mail a letter voicing their concern.

We may have been over-taken by events. Both Suwannnee Democrat and WTXL Channel 27 (Tallahassee, I think) have very recently posted on News for for Suwannee County Commissioners site that 4 of the 5 Commissioners now oppose the incinerators. Let's hold off on letters for a few days.

That's why you should use an old email address or simply create one on yahoo or somewhere just for this.

Organizer said use of Moveon.org should be phased out soon; I have not had anything from them so far today.

Did you read any of the emails carefully? Sometimes there is an "opt out" address enclosed.
