DV3X, and I'll be there while they dive, the bottom is at 60 ft. or so and they won't be using the tow harness so if it floods all they have to do is turn loose. I know about the charging issue, but think as long as you leave the plug out for an hour or two before charging , and leave the pug out until your ready to dive it shouldn't be an issue.
It's open water, they have been practicing in the pool with it, they won't be allowed to use it on ascents and know if it sticks on, just turn it loose, I won't be upset with them.
I appreciate your concern and warning though, often with used stuff you don't get any manuals etc. and may not know.
These kids have a couple years and maybe 50 dives, so they are better than you might think. I'd have the boy cave training as he definitely has the skills, but I don't think the maturity is there, yet.
