I don't view the spring tunnel as being a back mount dive, the first bit is low, but then it's generally a cave with good vertical relief.

The short line from the balcony to P2 is back mountable but is best done side mount.

I have done it on bm with Forrest but only once.. it is a little low. But then again Bobby did it on the breather, much larger profile than my backmount.. I have no idea how he did this and did not silt the heck out of it. I guess it depends a lot on how streamlined you are.

I love P3 and the spring tunnel rocks... on sidemount!

Did the Spring Tunnel with Bobby for the first time in Feb. I don't think I would do it BM. Loved the features of the cave, with all the elevation changes it would seem to be a lot more work with a rebreather.

I've been in the p3 spring tunnel, it's easily back mountable.

Yep, IF you have decent silt technique. I have seen people make a mess, though.

This post was supposed to read "I don't view the spring tunnel as a side mount dive" but I brain farted back versus side mount when typing.

The intent of the post was to agree with Huxley in an earlier post that its not clear why anyone would view it as a side mount dive, and to point out that only the first 30-40' or so is low with the rest having plenty of vertical room. In many places, the passage is a lot higher than it is wide.

With that said, I am surprised that people actually view this as something that would be a challenge in back mount, but perhaps they've just turned the dive at the very start of the tunnel where it is still low.

yea it's been a while, but I remember something like vertical fissures/canyons that might require sidemount guys to turn sideways

Remember doing this with you and Marci in backmount and turning it as it appeared to be offering less and less opportunities to either not silt up or be able to turn around.... maybe I shouldnt have led.... you will have to take me there again.

IIRC you were in the middle, but it was probably more of an issue of not knowing enough about what to expect.

It gets both low and narrow just before you enter the P2 Cavern. On the other hand its about the only place in P3 with flow and the bottom is also fairly sandy, so silting it out is not really an issue. It is however a restriction where you can't turn around in the restriction, but it gets very roomy right after that.

Totally agree it is a bm dive but it is nicer on sm (more space to lift your head and see even the first 100 ft). On a rebreather... not so good. Besides the depth changes that you have to do a thousand adjustments and I made so much fun of Bobby cause I could hear him swearing in the loop, the first 100 ft are a little tough if you are not perfectly streamlined on the rebreather. The breather is much larger profile than bm doubles.
