Do you have any more information/details you can provide? How do you know of this? Are you a victim? Is she selling via this website? I work for a different county, but have contacts in Alachua and Suwannee Counties.

Theres lots of thieves in Fort White and everywhere else. Getting the name wrong right off the bat and posting it on a public forum isnt cool.
The name wasn't far off from the accused - possibly intentional....and if it's true (I'm hearing there's a lot of circumstantial evidence), you're darned right I want to be warned about it....for many reasons including possibly ensuring the gear gets returned if it's more difficult to sell - but I agree with Forrest that it shouldn't turn into a mess on the CDF.Originally Posted by stairman

I agree - I don't really understand the over-editing of the first post or much of it that goes on on this, and other forums, other than misplaced loyalties. I'm not saying it's right or wrong (the editing here on this thread or other places), I'm just saying I don't understand it. However, if there is fear of a lawsuit or some legal implication, that's a fairly decent reason, in my opinion, to take action to protect yourself.

Its pretty sad that thievery is allowed to flourish here, if thats the case. If its not the case, then someone needs to clear things up, editting out an entire post just makes the entire thing look suspicous and smells of favoritism.
I didn't see the OP before editing, but it smells of lets-not-get-hit-by-a-libel suit to me. Maybe it's true. Maybe it's not. On the one hand, if it is true, I'd want other potential victims to be forewarned. If it's not true, man, that'd be a hornet's nest. Not to mention, in so many cases, things can be a little bad, but two sides give very different stories.
So I would view this as a very tricky situation to get right and extremely easy to say the wrong thing (too much or too little) and have things go awry.

very well said. I did see the original post. I'm not a lawyer but I don't see CDF liability in JonT posting that someone is a thief. There is no shortage of wrong information on the internet so that invalidates the logic that it was done because it was wrong.
I'm seeing more and more editing of posts and frankly is largely why I mostly stopped posting at TDS. I fully understand I'm perfectly able to exercise my rights to not be a member here. I appreciate most of what goes on on CDF and what I get for my membership fee....but why so much editing?

Could there not also be suits for editting out information that could potentially create the opportunity for more thefts? Aiding and embedding? LOL Sounds funny and certainly not intentional, but I would say that the arguement could be made with the same stretch as the CDF being held libel from one of its users comments.
If anything should be done, I would think another comment discreditting any wrongfull information would have been more affective.
