The law is a complex web of crap that takes years to understand, written to support the legal industry who need years of training to decipher...however it seems odd that if someone has been caught stealing, items taken back by law enforcement and also has warrants in foreign countries for the same type of thievery that we can't call them out to help others not get taken in.
I was under the impression that statements like "in my opinion she" and "i believe that she" could negate libel charges as you are absolutely free to state your opinion...

Seems the facts can be stated without the accusations.
    Who bought,sold, item, problems ...

    So show us the facts.

Why hurt one person(accused) when you can potentially hurt many(CDF sellers/buyers)?

It was sold to Rupert Murdock a few years ago during the whole Time Warner/Aol thing.

I really do not get it. Jont was trying to tell fellow divers to beware and not get taken when buying used scuba gear that might have been stolen. Now after all the editting his posting makes no sense at all.

And in addition, anyone can file a complaint or lawsuit against someone else without cause. I've had it done to me and fortunately had plenty of evidence supporting me so that nothing came of the complaint. However, I shouldn't have had to waste my time gathering this evident to defend myself against a BS complaint.

As for the OP, I didn't see it either and have no idea whether it's true or what the legal repercussions of such a post could have been. What I do know is that Scubaboard was sued a couple years ago by a dive facility in Maldives for what Scubaboard members posted in the forum. Pete Murray (SB's owner) had to spend quite to hire a lawyer and defend him in the suit. I don't think TJ wants to have to do the same thing here. And being that CDF isn't an advertiser supported forum that would likely be the end of the CDF. So think what you will about the moderation but there are valid reasons for it sometimes.

While anyone can file a lawsuit without cause it's a whole different deal to involve law enforcement in a criminal matter where they recover items that were stolen and were in the process of being sold to another person.
The criminal may say that they were "given" or "bartered" for the items, however when that person has a track record of theft and the story makes no sense you'd have to be born yesterday to believe them.

This is still an open case. No arrest has been made. The Cave Divers Forum doesn't want to be dragged into a lawsuit.

Feel free to PM Jont, for more details, but be aware, most of what he posted is incorrect, especially the name.

The name was a simple error on my part but MOST of what was posted was NOT incorrect........she does APPEAR to be in her mid 40's...

THERE IS AN ACTIVE WARRANT FOR HER ARREST IN AUSTRALIA

She does NOT have the experience to be teaching what she does.....

She was a ZERO to HERO diver ....forget about cave diver.

There's an ongoing joke about her log book.........

She's a bragger and tends to tell others how to dive..

She brags about her "sobriety" and wears it like some medal earned in combat......

QUITE FRANKLY IF THIS IS HOW SHE BEHAVES SOBER....SHE SHOULD START DRINKING AGAIN..............
