Beware........... A thief resides in fort white

I was the victim of this person myself. Gave me a bogus certifcation card that came in the mail and told her I owed her $27.50 for the processing fee. It was my deep specialty card. When I questioned her about it she said that since we went on a deep dive in Little River that the dive counted for my Deep Specialty. I'm no instructor but from what I know Deep is an OW certification not cave and that there are a few more skills involved than diving to 90 feet. She also conned me out of paying other things for her. I'm a nice person and easily conned. Fortunately I started listening to my "spidey sense" and started backing away. When she said she wanted to charge me $100 to go on a fun dive to cover her time and expenses, I was like hell no. She also sold me a drysuit for $300 that I have a strong suspicion might be stolen because I took a closer look at the markings inside the suit and they aren't consistent with what would be in somone's personal suit. Not to mention the suit was a piece of crap and ended up blowing up during the middle of a dive. By the time I surfaced water was pouring out of the suit.

And in addition, anyone can file a complaint or lawsuit against someone else without cause. I've had it done to me and fortunately had plenty of evidence supporting me so that nothing came of the complaint. However, I shouldn't have had to waste my time gathering this evident to defend myself against a BS complaint.


As for the OP, I didn't see it either and have no idea whether it's true or what the legal repercussions of such a post could have been. What I do know is that Scubaboard was sued a couple years ago by a dive facility in Maldives for what Scubaboard members posted in the forum. Pete Murray (SB's owner) had to spend quite to hire a lawyer and defend him in the suit. I don't think TJ wants to have to do the same thing here. And being that CDF isn't an advertiser supported forum that would likely be the end of the CDF. So think what you will about the moderation but there are valid reasons for it sometimes.

I could also see how some victim who got scammed would feel hurt that information that could have saved them stolen goods or money, would bring a lawsuit against the entity that held back information warning others from not doing business with the accused.

From the insight I have on all of this, I think some of the facts are being withheld in order to not cause collateral damage to some good hearted, honest people that were pulled into all of this crap.

But yet your "spidey senses" didn't somehow alert you that the same person was helping you dive upstream Cow, a system you guys had no business being in? Because it alerted quite a few of our senses and we weren't even there, we just heard about it second hand through the internet.

There is no legal requirement to "warn" other people...however there is a crime called libel that is a legit reason for web site owners to be concerned. In this particular instance anyone reading this thread would be aware that purchasing used scuba/camera gear from a female cave diver who lives in fort white should provide enough detail for now. There aren't exactly a huge number of female cave divers that live in fort white...heck there are not a huge number of women in fort white who have all their teeth imo
