Default What do you look for on a project website?

How many of you ever visit the websites of various projects or teams, such as EKPP, WKPP, the recently discussed Goodenough Springs Project, or the many others that are out there?

Then, those of you who DO visit those, what are you interested in? Why are you looking at those sites? What brings you back to look at those sites again and again - or do you typically just look once, then forget about it?

What would you like to see on those types of sites that's not normally there?

    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

    I do.

I enjoy reading the statistics, the backstories, seeing the pictures, and learning about the participants. It is also nice to see maps and related news stories. Flat, simple sites work best for me. Music and flashy stuff are cute, but to me, detract from the enjoyment (I'm at work mostly and that stuff just uses up bandwidth).

Another important feature would be a "how can I help?" and/or "how can I participate?" section. For some projects, donations are needed. For others, sherpas, divers, admin, grunts, etc. It would be nice to know this information, and how to contact someone to volunteer.

I look for their mission, maps, photos, and if they want me to continue to check it out, they need to update me on how there project is going via reports over some media or another.

I checked out the GoodEnough project site awhile back, and maybe one other time to find no new content. I haven't been back yet.

KUR is the only one that really has me going back visit after visit when they have exploration going on actively. They do a great job of keeping the site up-to-date with different media both by report blogs and the occassional photo/video stuff.

Nice responses thus far. Anyone else?

I am planning to use this info in a little project I may have going later next year, so you're comments aren't in vain.

Well, you did prompt me to look at the OCDA site again. It is nice to see new stuff on there, especially the sump exploration. I also noticed OCDA had done some work in one that Sheck and I had worked on about 30 years ago
