    Default Dorf

I was reading the history timeline in Heinerth and Oidgarden's Cave Diving Articles and Opinions, and did not see Dorf markers or line arrows...Forrest, could you tell us the years of first use and bit about them in general? I know it's probably on the forum somewhere and a search would find the info, but an update is a good thing too.

    thanks,

Interesting they are using that article to sell arrows

It is a pretty good rendition of the story, so I won't add to it. It was in the early '80s.

Does anyone know the story of the cookie? I have one of the original handmade cookies. It was given to me by the designer, Daniel Riordan. I don't know why he didn't just use the slot design of the arrow, but the cookies seem to stay on the line, so it doesn't really matter.

    Default ok, but....

    Yes but when? dorf = 19xx. wilson arrow = 19xx. and cookie = 19xx?

just trying to get my dates straight.

thanks sludge, i see the reference: 1975 = dorff markers after first use of duct tape to point to exit, to become known as dorff markers after lewis holtzendorff (who then died during a cave dive - an hopefully not to going the wrong direction - oh, sorry, that was bad).

and then wilson arrows? cookies too now that forrest brought them up?

What is interesting is that there are well known caves where ducktape markers are still hanging. It is so cool to find them.

I guess my answer wasn't real obvious, but it was the early 80s. I don't remember the exact year. The cookie was around 2003.

I think it was about 2003 for the cookie also. I have heard 2 reports that they came from MX and from Sump Divers used as survery stations. Can enyone conferm or deny any of this?

Don't you remember Danny? He was a guide at DeRosa's at the time, and he developed the cookie, mostly because there were generally more than one way to exit those Mexican caves.
