There is no limit. We'll always find a way to go deeper and deeper. That's been the pattern all along.

I have a friend seller a pretty killer light set up. You might want to check it out --->>> http://thedecostop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36525
tell him shag sent you, He might give you a discount.
Kudos to you if you are able to find a used 12W LED on the market and someone willing to knock $280 (35%) off of a great light that is about a year old. You may want to consider buying the 9W handheld (it comes with a goodman and is in your price range) and using it as your primary. You can always use it as a backup primary later when you get a large light.
Happy birthday,

Good suggestion Jeff,
I did that w/my DR 500 LED. Great backup light. Not so great as
a primary light under most conditions.
Happy Birthday, Joe. Hope you get lucky.

hey glenn ...
i used the DR 10watt HID side by side with the LED700 ...
in absolutely crystal clear conditions, there was very little between the lights and the major difference was in the scatter of the LED ... (3 diodes) where the HID was still a tunnel ...but VERY similar brightness ...
BUT ..... that was in crystal clear water ... so if you are only diving caribbean or caves, great ...
if you are doing any other kind of diving, i would NOT yet consider LEDs ... they do NOT have the cutting power of the HIDs (YET) ...
I would have to disagree with you on that generalization. The Salvo uses a single LED and focuses just like an HID. That is why their LED offerings are superior to the DR LEDs. I had the original DR LED300 and loved it for the size and convenience, but the beam was a huge problem for me due to the poor signalling capabilities. I am surprised that they have not fixed their design yet. So, as it related to the three LED DR lights, I would agree that they are not ideal for anything that would require a tight beam (i.e. signalling in caves), but the Salvos do not have the same deficiency.
BTW - I dive the Salvo 21W LED and my buddy Sam dives the 12W LED.
Cheers,
~Jeff
Joseph, one other light you may want to consider (since you are on a budget) is the new DR 15 W HID, I was on the phone with the guys at DR yesterday and I am sending my 10W in to be upgraded. They said you could see a considerable improvement in brightness with the upgrade.
