Now we agree! best crawfish: outside N.O. alongside the road from the back of a truck. best shrimp po'boys: a little hole in the wall of a bar and grill on the North Shore of Lake Ponchatrain...little town begins with an M.... Best steamed blue crab cajun style: the old ninth ward (before katrina), along the lake where the canals of canal street hooked up with the lake....what was the name of that place? all gone now....wish I'd bought a t-shirt. Best seafood gumbo: that same little old man's truck alongside the road. and not food, but best sailboat docks away from it all? Up the bayou south of Slidell!
what day is it? time for mardi gras? a roadtrip in order? anyone coming back up this way want to bring me some food?

since we've highjack ag's thread every which way but loose, maybe we should all chip in and buy the van, then at the next social auction it off and donate the money to putting in stairs at one of the caves in need.

Mardi Gras season has started already, first parades rolled two weekends ago.
Shrimp Po Boys on the North Shore... Well, kinda sounds like "Rags" in Madisonville. There is also a "Rags Too" in Covington, both on the Northshore. You can get blackened shrimp po-boys there, one of the few places that will make them. Its not on the menu, but ask
Perrans in Metairie has some great ones too.
You couldn't pay me to deal with the Mardi Gras crowds! I love the food and history in N.O. though. My favorite time to go is a few weeks after, when there's still a chance it won't be blazing hot and most of the revelers are back to their cubicles.
However, the Breaux Bridge crawfish festival in early May is a thing of beauty, even with the crowds and heat!
