I did a quick survey around the office and everyone agrees that it's ya'll. Y'all is the yankee spelling! only yankees think it's a contraction of you all. I did get a few yall's as the spelling (one syllable), but not one y'all.

no one thinks florida is the south either.

any input from Mississippi? Alabama? Georgia?

Tha panhandle is the south, hell, most people group it as South Alabama :P

I'm not totally convinced its part of Alabama though... I'm not a huge fan of Alabama, but I really enjoy the panhandle. Just the lousy opinion of a coonass living in hicksville

It's a contraction, with the apostrophe taking the place of "ou." If it weren't a contraction, there wouldn't be an apostrophe.
