many periodicals and newspapers charge different subscription rates for digital delivery and paper copies, reflecting the different costs; giving folks choice to pay more for paper is always an option.

True; however, NSS-CDS is not a periodical or newspaper. It is an organization with limited resources, and with responsibilities that extend beyond publishing a print magazine. I'm not advocating the end of the printed magazine. I'm simply noting the cost associated with maintaining a high quality print publication at most any size press run and mail distribution.

You get it. Its one or two people managing the newsletter. People dont seem to understand that its not a large scale printing operation. More importantly its a conservational organization. Move to paperless which has zero environmental impact. People need to get into the 21st century and get used to digital.

True. But they're being charged anyway so moving to digital journals isn't increasing energy use.

Had thought the same. much less how you build your digital device. unfortunately not much of anything has a 'zero' environmental impact.

Would print on demand have the same quality as the printed magazine? That's one thing I like about the printed magazine, it lasts for years and is still beautiful.

I don’t keep my old issues; they go in the recycle bin after I’ve read them. I prefer reading hardcopy to digital, but read digital more often, especially when looking for articles in back issues. So put me down for digital and save a tree.

I understand the quality can compare to off set printing.
