    Default Getting steel tanks repainted?

I have a set of LP46s that are starting to rust where the paint is worn through, which is in a lot of places. Also one is green and the other is yellow, which is really affecting my trim. Since I can't buy new ones, I'd like to have them repainted. I've heard of places that do hydros that can repaint tanks, but haven't been able to find one around cave country.

Does anyone know of a place qualified to paint tanks around this area?

By "this area" do you mean Thailand?

I think repainting tanks is a bad idea. Unless you baby them they are going to get scratched up again. The cost involved isn't worth it (if you have it done right). I'd just stand off the rust and keep going or sell them and buy new. Do you dive salt a lot?

Tremclad or any good quality paint meant for metal. Remove any loose or flaky bits. Sand between coats. Using a compatible undercoating is a good idea and will help the paint stick and last longer. Use a decent brush and get a couple of coats on.

I am in cave country. I don't care how my tanks look, I just don't want the rust getting more serious. Since I cant buy 45s I'd like to keep using them.

I wouldn't get concerned over some exterior surface rust. If the tanks don't have boots on them exterior rust is generally not an issue. If it bothers you wire brush / sand them to bare metal and apply a spray primer and then spray paint them. You can get the paint at Lowe's / Home Depot.

Did you send them with the valves off? I guess if I'm gonna vip them it doesn't really matter anyways.

I used an angle grinder wirebrush, phosphoric acid based rust preventer, epoxy based two part primer and PU based two part paint.

Works well on the parts where I actually got proper coverage
