    Default Traveling with Pets

So I learned a few things last weekend while traveling to cave country and bringing my pup along for the ride and thought other out of towners might like know.

First, these two hotels are pet friendly. The Econo Lodge charged an additional $10 per night and was not the hole in the wall you would expect.... it is a nice place to stay.
    Econo Lodge

    Very Good! 3.6 of 5 (214 Reviews)
    6811 N. US 129 & I-10, Live Oak, FL, 32060, US
    Phone: (386) 362-7459 Fax: (386) 364-6598

    AND

Although we did not stay at this hotel, we will in the future because it is close to the Pet boarding/daycare listed below.

Quality Inn I-75 at Exit 399

15960 NW US Hwy 441, Alachua, FL, 32615, US

I think it is $12/day for daycare and $25/day for full boarding.

Wish I had known about BednBiscuit before my trip last week. They have awesome reviews and are located just south of High Springs.

Oh and so does whomever is taking over the Cave Excursions lodging.... I totally forgot about that but was thinking more commercial establishments. The pet sitting was what I had known about before my trip.... would have been so nice to have dropped Chaco off while my son and I went diving... He watched her while I was diving on Saturday and Sunday... we traded dive time with each other on Friday.... which did not mean much dive time for him over the weekend.

Cathy's allows dogs but use precautions. There used to be a ton of ticks and fleas at her place when she had a ton of dogs. Her dogs were also kind of obnoxious at times and of questionable health (unvaccinated no preventions). My understanding is theres alot less dogs there now so maybe its cool. I personally stopped going there a while back because I got tired of sitting and having dirty smelly dogs jumping on me.

The pet daycare appears to have HIGH reviews.... It was Linda at CE that told me about them.... albeit to late to have been any use

There's a doggie daycare/boarding facility in Marianna now as well, Great Oaks Pet Resort. http://greatoakpetresort.com
Reasonably priced, about 8 min from Cave Adventurers/JB, and my little guy loved it there.

I've spent 5-6 weeks a year at Cathy's starting in 2005. The most dogs I remember her having at one time was four. For a couple of years now there has been only one, Bandit, who's well behaved and not a jumper. I've never seen a flea or tick there, but I don't bring a dog with me to catch them. Cathy's pets have never been allowed into the cottages; I don't know whether guests' pets are or not. As far as the unvaccinated goes, I have watched the shop for Cathy a couple of times while she's taken a dog or cat to the vet. Whether the vet visits included vaccinations, I don't know.

A few years back (4-ish maybe) she had a few more than that and they were annoying as hell. Her dogs don't go into the cottages, just the main building.

Good that there's only the one now. It was very annoying for a while.

For some reason people seem to think that a dive shop (or maybe it's just Luraville) is a good place to dump unwanted pets. Both Cathy's and Bill's have had dogs dumped off, and there have also been dogs dumped at Peacock. I don't know what the hell is wrong with people.
