    Default Alachua

We dove Alachua sink Sunday. The headpool was reasonably clear, over 10'. I have seen it only 2'. It was a little cool in the headpool, but got warmer once in the cave. The visibility was around 50', which is as good as it has been lately. It is the first time I have been able to see across the first big room. Average depth upstream is around 150', with one spot around 180'. We had a great dive!

With everything so many places closed, it is a good alternative to the crowds at Ginnie. You do have to get a guide, but there is no charge. This link is a list of Alachua guides: http://www.nsscds.org/node/330

I could download my computer, but my guess was inside the cave, about 70 deg, and headpool about 65 deg.

EDIT: My computer shows cave temp at 71 deg. I wasn't in the head pool long enough to get a good reading, but you don't notice temperature changes of much less than 5 degrees.

Well, I just heard that the visibility at Alachua is down to under a foot. The guide couldn't even read his computer.

    50 feet of visibility.

Just not all at the same time.

As my OW instructor used to say, "I can see 10 feet in front and behind, right and left, up and down, so there's 60 feet of vis."
