Bottom Timers

Yup, I have a ten year old Suunto Viper that makes a very nice bottom timer in guage mode. And unlike my old Uwatec puck timer, I can replace the batteries.

Primary - Shearwater Predator SA
Backup - Uwatec SmartPro Wrist in gauge mode (Bought to use going forward as AOW) sent in for one battery replace so far.)
I download both, but do my logging in SmartTrak.

Backup backup is Genisis React Pro (picked up cheap) which came in handy as back up timer when SP battery died during trimix trip in Lake Huron.

I was looking at Bottom Timers to back up my computer on a dive and was suprised at their high cost. My question is what do others do to back up your computer?

Casio G-Shock and their Twin Sensor models have served me very well. I've yet to flood a Casio. 40-60 bucks, maybe a little more if you get a fancy one.

Ditto this. I've had mine to 300' with no issues. It gets caked in mud and banged around (in dry caves). The band went to hell quickly, but the watch itself has been indestructible.

IIRC, Sheck mentioned in Caverns using Casio watches in his crazy deep dives. Something about expensive watches always failing before their rated depth, but the cheap casios made it much deeper than rated.

I tried using my Oceanic Veo 250 as a back-up but it did not agree with my Nitex Q and kept locking me out if I followed the Q's profile.

If you are only using it for a BT then set the O2 at 50%. Deco will be way off but it will never lock you out because of violating it. Just ignore the flashing O2 graph and go.
