Last time I was at Peacock I in early November I clipped my tanks to a line, donned the Nomad and did a beautiful triple lindy with a double twist off the bottom step. My best high dive to date!

    Gotta love the triple lindy

It's bad luck to be superstitious.

Nobody can do the triple lindy - it's impossible.

Granted, the water levels right now are some of the lowest we've ever seen, but that's Florida. We alternate between too much and too little water all the time. For all we know, next year may see record flooding. We are seeing the results of a long term drought over the past 30 years or so and combined with the increasing water withdrawals from the aquifer, the biggest difference I see is not fluctuations in water level, but the flow coming out of the springs. I remember the flow at Peacock being noticeably stronger under all water level conditions except just before it flooded. Flow strong enough to work up a sweat going in. Now it seems to barely flow at all. Little River, Manatee and Ginnie were all but impossible to swim against the flow most of the time and now you can easily swim nearly all the time. Andrew Pitkin pointed out that one of the charts on the projected flow out of Madison shows that it will not flow at all by 2030 and will begin to siphon most of the time.

Sadly, I feel we will see several nice caves that will do that before 2015. The people of Florida have no idea, but we are literally only a few years from full force water wars. Clean water will get VERY expensive soon.

I think the future of the springs is in imperil, and even cyclical weather events won't ease the problem. Some springs near the coast are starting to show salt water intrusion.

Sadly I feel you are 100% correct. People around here don't realize what is going on with their groundwater. In fact, every couple of years, the citizens of Okaloosa County get to vote on whether we dam the Shoal river. Every time the motion fails because people think it will destroy the enviorment, but instead not having that dam is destroying the groundwater as every year we have to take out water faster than it can be replenished. The dam would provide us with an awesome supply of drinking water and the aquifer could be given an opportunity to replenish a little. If the water table here keeps dropping I am gonna turn on my faucet one day and nothing is gonna come out, or even worse something could come out that is so contaminated that I get sick or die. Wake up Florida, the resource that has kept our state afloat is about to go tits up...
