That's OK, you're not the only one! Tracy and I watched it in Lake City the weekend it came out - in a huge theater with only one other couple in it.
I seem to remember that it was insufficient OC bailout that got them into that situation. In most horror movies, you know something bad is about to happen when the protagonist has his back to the closet door where the monster or bad guy is lurking. In Sanctum it was when they ditched their bailout bottles to get through a restriction - cue the scary music!
Am I the only one that changes my bailout to different caves? Ginnie/JB I carry what I need, EN about twice what I need (+), etc. I've used team bailout but only for very specific dive objectives and mostly it was because we decided we wanted to do something we didn't get the fills for the night before (I know way to lazy). Also if I'm diving with Russel I only carry enough to get to him as he is the best self propeled bailout around.
When using rebreathers, we use team bailout for stage bottles - enough to get one person out, but still carry enough "back" gas to each make it back to the stage bottle(s) on our own.

The only rebreather I have experience with is Mike Young's GEM gas extender. What I love about it is the total OC bailout. Is it better then CCR? It depends on what you want out of your dive. Personally for where I am at and how I dive it works pretty well. My dives ave 2 hours. Since the only electronics is a ppo monitor and I plug in each tank (same as switching reg) I have full OC bail out. I can tell you that after yanking a hose off in the back of Cow Springs I had 2 95's with 3000 psi in one tank and 3600 in the other. In short close to starting pressure and a no mental pressure exit. Theres a trade off with the lack of electronics I don't get shorter deco but if I bailout there is no question as to what my decompression is. The lower profile helps (my scrubber sits on my Nomad where like a back mount single) with my sidemount still rigged as OC. Are there dives where a CCR is a better choice, Yes of course, but for most of my diving it works very well.

Brendan's Law - "Know what you're breathing. Analyze your gas for O2 and Co. Analyze your gas each time, everytime, anywhere."
Michael, Have you tried offboarding 2 tanks and plumbed them both in as Dil?
I have 2 offboard dil tanks for the KISS (1 feeds the ADV, the other the BOV). My O2 is redundant as well (very cool when you lose a first stage in the Super Room at the Nest).
Walter, my only rebreather experience is with my unit and with diving with rebreater divers as an open curcuit diver,so I may be misunderstanding your question. My answer may seem simplistic. Though the GEM is a Kiss product the indiviual unit I use is a prototype and in a lot of ways a differant animal the traditional CCR/SCR units. I think Gas Extending Machine is a best way to discribe the unit. My side mount rig doesn't change in neither placement of primary bottles nor Deco/stage Bottles. With the exception of each of my bottles being rigged with an extra low power inflator hose with quick release. The unit was built to fit on my Nomad with the scubber on my back where a single cylinder would sit. Over my right shoulder is the unit's second stage and the right side counter lung. My right side cylinder is my drive cylinder for back gas. It is plugged in the unit via the extra low pressure inflator. As in when I side mount it is also my long hose with second stage clipped to my right shoulder under the outside edge of the right side counter lung. Over the left shoulder is a O2 PPO monitor and left side counter lung. My left side cylinder is my primary bailout with second stage on a necklace and one low pressur hose for inflation of the wing, then a second Low pressure as back up for the Gem. Deco or stage bottles are rigged the same as they would be if I was using open curcuit. I switch gases via the low pressure hoses. I takes me 3 breaths exhaling thru my nose to flush the loop. I currently lose about two points on each gas in the loop as noted by the O2 ppo monitor. for example 32% = 30%, 50% =48%. I flag/lable the end of the LP hoses with the bottle's contents. So I don't really know how to answer your question because I don't think in terms of dil tanks. I think in terms of backgas needed and deco gas needed. I use a 7:1 ratio mouthpiece. My Sac rate on OC runs an ave of .65 to .7, my sac rate on the GEM currently between .11 and .12. When I plan my dive I plan my bail out based on a my open ciruit sac rate of .7. My dive gas plan is based a numer between .12 and .7 depending on the parameters of the dive. My tendency is to use the larger number leaving more bail out gas.
