I college I bought a flute at a pawn shop for a ridiculously low price. When I showed it to my then-girlfriend, she recognized it as one that had been stolen from a classmate of hers. I went to the girl and offered to sell it to her for what I had in it (insurance had already bought her a new flute, but there's the sentimentality and all), but she declined. So I sold it to a guy, and then I got a call from the police. I had to get the flute, give the guy his money back, and take it downtown. I was promptly arrested, but I pulled the receipt from the pawn shop out and charges were immediately dropped. I had to give the flute to the cop and go to the pawn shop where the guy refunded my money. But I had made $165 profit selling it, so the way I see it, I was out $165 for trying to be a nice guy.

Whoever said money can't buy love never bought a puppy.

Oh, the sordid lives of wind instrumentalists - pawn shops, stolen property....you never hear any stories like that in the strings section!

We divided the orchestra up into two groups - string players and musicians!

I thought it was percussionists and musicians...

There must be better pawn shops in the South - the only musical instruments I ever saw in the ones I've been in were electric guitars and drum kits.

No problem, I found one that was a lot less "hot"
