My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. I hope they can take some consolation from knowing he led a full life, and touched so many.

I heard about Wes early this morning. For once, I am at a loss for words. I too remember Wes living in his van, camping in the woods at Jenny springs. It's been a long time. Adieu Wes.

I just got an email about this. I'm really sorry everybody. My sincerest condolences to all family and friends. We all lost another "true original". RIP.

I met Wes one time at Ginnie. That single encounter was quite memorable. A great diver, photographer, and human being! Such a sad loss to all. My condolences to Wes' family and legions of friends.

Wes Skiles was our ambassador, our champion, and his work will be celebrated as long as there are Florida cave divers. Thank God we had him! He opened a lot of people's eyes. Please let us know if there is some sort of charity or scholarship fund to donate in Wes's name.

This hit like a stab to the chest. Wes can't be gone! Sadly, he is, but he won't be forgotten. His body of work will live on, and he in our hearts and mind.

    Default From the Skiles Family

Wes Skiles died while diving off West Palm Beach on Wednesday, July 21.

He was conducting a routine filming dive when the accident occurred. No one else was injured.

There are no further details regarding the accident at this time. The exact cause has not yet been determined and we are awaiting official reports.

Wes has been a tireless advocate for springs, springsheds and the conservation and protection of Florida’s water resources.

At the time of his death, he was excited about the upcoming issue of National Geographic Magazine, which features his photographs and the cover shot. We appreciate all of the concern and outpouring of support.

We celebrate his extraordinary life and ask you to do the same.

The family requests that you respect their privacy at this time.

Memorial arrangements will be announced in the near future.

Jill, I'm so sorry you had to send this. But thank you.
