While I have not purchased one yet (i understand there's a backorder at the moment) I am going to get one soon. Just took a look at one last weekend from a guy diving an optima and he swore buy it. Showed it to me while we were on deco and it was very easy to read under water. Another guy that I have been talking to dove it on his meg and switched it over to his revo when he switched units. I might get a pursuit and then upgrade it if push comes to shove...have a class scheduled in about three weeks myself. Bill

    Default Preadator

I dive a KISS CCR and have used a VR3 since my training. After seeing the Preadator at DEMA last year, the first thing I did was sell my VR3 for the first $900 and bought a Preadator.

It is insanely intuitive! The two-button system is an ease to use and you don't have any of the bad spring or stuck button issues of the VR3. The OLED screen is so bright that cave instructors are having to conceal their unit for the lights out drill.

The color coded (green is good, yellow caution, red something is wrong) setup is great.

Customer service is first rate. I just downloaded the new firmware for the unit. Simple! Used bluetooth adapter that comes with unit and simply downloaded to my PC and then to unit. In a word, AWESOME!

I liked it so much, I just ordered a second Preadator. You will not go wrong with this unit. Upgradeable, easy to use, located in North America, and customer service that is second to none.

    Great unit!

I've got a Predator and a Pursuit. They are both great, but the Predator is easier to read. I will be upgrading the Pursuit as soon as they have cleared their backlog.

    Cheers,

It's a horrid computer I don't know what your thinking. If you don't use tables and redundant bottom timers you'll probably die. To save you're life I have a bottom timer I will trade strait accross. Deal?

JK, I dive two pursuit's and love them and share everyone else's comments. As soon as the backorder stops I'll have to upgrade..one at a time.

Marci and I just completed 19 dives in N FL with our Predators. The display is very easy to read and the color coding is nice as it does get your attention.

    A few things we noted.

    1. When you end a dive on 100%, that is the active gas for the next dive. It will give you a high PPO2 warning as you pass through 20' at the start of the next dive if you do not reset the active gas to your travel/bottom mix.

    2. It is really picky on depth. We played on one deco stop at 20 ft and noted that moving it down 6" will result in a high PPo2 warning. As in it still reads 20' but now gives you the yellow high PPO2 message. Alternatively, if you have a 20' ceiling and come up to 19', it gives you the red missed deco stop warning. It demands precision. To clear a message you have to press the right button to confirm/acknowledge it.

    3. It will predict NDL's and total deco based on every gas entered in the computer, so you can't add every gas you plan to use for the week. You can add or remove gasses while underwater.

    4. We were not real fans of the elastic straps and buckles, but it is bungee friendly. The straps are well made, but are too short to double up around your arm and a little too long to be clean with a single loop around the arm. Bungees are just a lot easier and eliminate the gymnastics of fastening the buckles.

    5. It is a dirt simple computer with dirt simple log functions and failry simplistic software. It is fairly intuitive to operate and you can start using it with minimal practice or reference to the manual. It is a no non-sense low frill compter with a great display.

    6. A big sell for me is the adjustable gradient factors so while it is low opn fluff, it has the meat where it counts.

    7. As serious trimix computers go, it is a serious bargain and an excellent value.

Marci gives it an A- on her rating scale and she considered the VR3 to be a C or C-. My opinion is about the same. I am sure it tracks more data than it shows in the log and I would like to see average depth both on the computer and in the dive log software.

I have a pursuit (currently getting the upgrade) and a predator. In my opinion they are the best computers out there right now.

Shearwater is very good at answering emails and the customer support is awesome too.

Edd has some in stock...at least he did last week. You might want to give him a call.

I have a Predator (up graded from the Pursuit)I use it on my RB to monitor three cells. It is very nice, easy to read display and the Menus are easy to view and use. I did have a VR before but prefer the Predator.
