If you watch the recovery of the skull closely, they pull the skull out, drop a marked cookie in the depression the skull came from and then put the skull in a bag.

Really enjoyed the archeology and geology presented in the show - not to mention the great cave videography! Need to make a trip to the Bahamas!

I let the drama go in one ear and out the other as I know TV producers feel they need to do that for some reason. EXCELLENT cinematography and it is always great too see top cave scientists/explorers who constantly -day in -day out =put back into the karst knowledge base .I hope the show provides the scientists and cave explorers with much needed money for projects and expeditions.

I always enjoy being able to read exploration logs and read maps-so I am always thankful for any portion of an expedition that gets shared.

I watched this show with three of my neighbors...they know I cave dive, but it's not something I've ever really discussed at length with any of them.

I was cringing a little at the overly dramatic narration, but noticed that the others in the room were absolutely bug-eyed at the images being shown. so, that helped demonstrate that the show wasn't made for 'us,' it was made for a lay audience.

one person asked if I had ever dived 'that deep' (260-ish) in a cave...when I replied that I've been almost 100' deeper, I got a nod and a knowing look that imparted an unspoken opinion that 'you, my good man, are EFFIN insane.'

had to smile a bit on that one...

oh, and it cracks me up that there was a comment about the show presenting 'too much' science....please, if facts regarding the environment you're diving in hurts your brain, you can always find a sitcom or some Family Guy reruns to watch.

My wife watched it with me, and before it started she asked if I really wanted her to watch.

She knows the risks involved with diving and even cave diving, but she knows it is something I love and will continue to do despite the risks.

She did mention a couple times about how it sounded like they were trying to scare someone into not cave diving. It was funny, she was actually more worried about me going through a hydrogen sulfide layer than the actual cave dive itself.

I was very proud of her when they showed the dead diver and she mentioned (before it was said) that he probably didn't have a line or the proper equipment. She isn't a diver, but she sure as heck knows the "rules" of cave diving.

I really enjoyed the program...wish it had more diving but that is just the cave diver in me talking.

I worry about those too. Some can hurt your eyes, skin, and even gear. I have had to rebuild regs after diving through that junk.

I think one area where heavy dramatics are good is where the show makes an effort to scare people. I say it's good because if they just show pretty caves and make it look easy to go into then some untrained idiot(s) who think they know what they're doing are gonna do just that and add to the statistics pool.

The boss down at my customer's, commented on watching the NOVA show when we got back to work yesterday for the first time since the snow. He said it wasn't nearly so gave-me-the-willies as the Blue Springs video with deepairmike!

Land of Enchantment -- not so great for cave diving, but mighty scenic!

Fair point, but sometimes it's the wrong people that get scared. People like family members (spouses/parents etc.) that won't want you to participate in the sport due to their fear (not necessarily yours), as well as government/regulatory officials that may start regulating our activities without even consulting us for input, or land owners who may close access to the caves over legal liability concerns without giving us input or consideration! And all simply because they're so scared, they don't want to bother to take the time to understand it, or us....

It's not the ones that get scared away from the sport in re: themselves that worry me. It's the ones that get so scared they want to keep me and the rest of us away from it........... for "our own good!"

Long before this NOVA my brother would cut out newspaper articles on cave diving related deaths and mail them to me pleading for me to stop my "reckless" behavior. After NOVA my wife speaks with "clear knowledge and authority" about the dangers of my sport to everyone and urges THEM to talk some sense into me.

I learned my mistakes and won't ask her to join me for anymore cave diving TV shows.
