Met with a guy from FL who is up in the area for the holidays. He dives a KISS and was very inquisitive about my GEM. We met at teh spring head and decided on how we we do the dive. I ran the reel and st it, then let him take the lead so that I could say on the line and let him go from side to side and explore the cave. We made it to the 1300' arrow and turned the dive. With us both on differant RB's, mine being linked to my HSE to computate my deco and his VR3 on a set point I was clear about 10 minutes before his was.
Vis was about 45+ feet, I konw that when we were at teh 950' arrow I could see him way up there and then when I got to the arrow I saw him at it was a survey marker just a few feew shy of the 1000' arrow. We decoed out and took an hour SI and then I took him to the jump at the top of the stair case. I set the spool and then let him lead as I stayed on the line again to let him check out the cave again.
I just can't figure it out the cave water was a warm 58* and the air temp was a balmy 41* and he is used to clearer and warmer water but got to see what we midwestern cave divers go through. He was impressed with the cave but just wished it was the normal 70* that he is used to and the air temp was warmer. Just think of the stories he wil have to tell his FL buddies about some of what ew go through when they complain that vis is only about 50-60 feet and the air temps drop to 60*.
It was a great time and he truly enjoyed the dive. He say she can't wait to make it back up again and have more time to do it again. But would rather wait for the air temps to be warmer.
It did sprinkel on us as we go tout form our first dive and then it stopped and on the second dive it was still cloudy and I think the air temp dropped a few degreas.
Guess then FL boys just need to learn what we go through to keep cave diving as much as we can. Hope he passes the work along and lets them know how tough we are up here and what it takes.
