Default Best bang for the buck on a reg?

I was thinking I might buy my son a reg fro christmas or send him a gift card, Gift card would be cheaper but he will try and find a way to spend that on beer. he is living in a tent in gentilly, la rebuilding the levees with the national guard

I'd really like to buy him a reg. Is there a consensus on best bang for the dollar for a reg?

I would recommend the Dive Rite sp2500-stage regulator pkg. This is a DR holiday (ahem) special...it comes with a spg w/ 6" HP hose and a 40" LP reg hose w/ a S/S bolt snap, hose clip retainer and screw-on DIN cap for retail of $380..good deal huh? All set up as a stage reg ready to dive.

Is it clear? No? Well....let's go anyways.

    Default i agree

    Jordan,
Arn't dive rite regs pretty much the best thing you could ever buy for a loved one? I thought i remember reading that in consumer reports this month. I know they can be tough to get, as santa usually drops his order at the beggining of december.

Add a slimline/H10 and you'll get 'em for life

Highest performance for the money in a new regulator starts and ends with the Atomic Aquatics Z-1. (And the shop I work for doesn't even sell them, so there's no bias here!)

However, I see used Scubapro Mark 10/G-250s on eBay all the time for around $150. That's hard to pass up.

I'm headed out to Jackson Blue in a few minutes, although I'd love to stick around and debate.

The Mk10/G250 is one of the best-breathing combinations of all time.

My only complaint with it is that the HP O-ring is very fiddly in terms of water and cleaning, and when dove heavily (as I tend to do) it starts to creep and needs a rebuild every 6 months or so.

Contrast this with my DS4s, which haven't been apart since I bought them.

    I'll have to try a DS4 with a G250 sometime....

What's involved with converting a yoke Mark10 to a DIN, and the best way to do it? Also, how's the hose routing compared to, say, the DiveRite or an Apeks?

    Thanks,
    Dave

I will stick with my Apeks got them for a great deal and love their performance and they breathe just as good at 300' as they do 20' so I do not have to buy several regulators to dive I just have (6) apeks and am very happy and I think that a lot of deep divers will say the same. Look up Apeks and look at there testimony about John Bennett and his depth with them.

It depends on what he will use them for, but the Titan LX by Aqua Lung is a pretty decent reg around 280.00 I believe.

go with the Apeks it will grow with him or should I say he will never out grow it. Mine was my 1st regs I told them I was thinking of doing wreck diving someday and I was told to buy them and I have not regretted it.

if you dive apeks you know I am being truthful with you. And if he desides he wants to give it up guess what? you have another Apeks in your bag.
