We , William and I had a great time met new friends etc. I'd like to thank a few. First Bill and his crew. I bought one meal the whole time I was down, Bill and crew kept us well fed and entertained. Bill spent a whole lot of money putting this thing on, food, tent, table and chair rental had to come to quite a lot. to say nothing of all the extra work they put into it. I'll Remember that when I want to buy some new toys.
I really enjoyed hearing from the more experienced divers the stories of old, how things began and why we do the things we do. I won't call them old, because they aren't, but they certainly are more experienced than most and some things you just can't get from books, hearing them was worth the trip, I for one would love to have something like this again.
Bobby, the UWLD, I don't dive one of his lights (yet), but have really been impressed with his innovations, his lights are way more than lights, and are beginning to evolve into "systems", and that's impressive, that is how designs ought to mature, but rarely do as the innovators lose control of their designs clearly Bobby hasn't. Anyway when I saw his first lights and how he used the Maglight clip, I copied that for my LM lights and this weekend validated his decision to manufacture his own clip when I busted my Maglight clip. Anyway I thought I'd just buy one of Bobby's and figure out a way to mount it to my Goodman handle with what few tools I had on hand, so I went into the shop and asked Linda if she had a clip for sale, She didn't and went to ask Bobby. In a minute she returns with Bobby in tow, him holding one of his new Goodman handles in hand. I saw that and thought, I really didn't want to buy a whole handle assembly, but what the heck it's obviously very good quality, certainly better than what I had so why not. I didn't say anything and Bobby hands it to me and tells me to return it when I'm done or if I still need it after REACT, to return it to Linda, well I'm not often at a loss for words, but this had me not knowing what to say, I'd understand it of course if I had his light, but here he is giving me a NEW unused handle that I may well make unsellable by diving it, and knowing it's to be used on a competitors light.
I know what my next light will be, not that LM isn't an excellent light and are excellent people, but debts have to be repaid, you know.
