Default What does it take to be a cave instructor? A cave Instructor Trainer?

With all the discussion of the quality of the cave divers being made it seems a good idea to have a conversation with a discussion of what it takes to be a cave instructor and then cave Instructor Trainer? Obviously the quality of the instructor will have a great impact on the quality of the product (cave divers)

A good chance for cave Instructors to talk about the process.

Talk to Jim Wyatt Training Director NSS-CDS. He can tell you about NSS-CDS.

Uh, depends on the agency. I swear there's a few instructors who did just that.

I'm glad I went through the NACD and CDS co-teaching, mentoring programs followed by the institutes. IMHO I really think that's the way to go as you see a bunch of different instructors/styles as opposed to following around one cave instructor trainer and having him/her sign you off. Just my opinion as always...

I basically did the same thing with IANTD.

I started with Tom Mount, but before it was done, I spent time with John Jones, Jim Wyatt, Marc Bryan, Max, Georges, and a few others. I think each of those guys are outspoken enough that if I sucked they'd say, "dude you suck". Wait, err, uh... that conversation did happen one day. And I spent 6 more months working on my status.
