Flew down to Abaco Island in the Bahamas last Thursday to hook up with Brian Kakuk for some cave diving. Been looking forward to Abaco for a long time, everyone tells me how great it is (and they are RIGHT).
I mounted a GoPro Hero 3 on my helmet with two I-Torch Plus lights.
The I-Torch has a removable lens between the emitter and housing,
so with the lens removed, it gives an almost flat, even 60 deg beam.
So the two beams are fixed to almost perfectly mirror the camera's
field of view. Hands-free, brain-free shooting!
Admittedly, this is only producing about 150 lumen, but I need something
small and primarily as foreground lighting.
The GoPro is set to shoot both 1080 video and stills every 5 sec.
Unfortunately my little travel computer does not have the horsepower
to edit HD MP4, so all I have to offer for now is a few stills.
This is Brian and me gearing up on the first day at Dan's Cave.
My little GoPro (that has worked flawlessly so far) decided to
have a brain-fart on our second day of diving. It recorded nothing.
So all I have is a few good stills because I was swiveling my
head around sight-seeing on the first day of diving.
This is a good example of my lights illuminating Brian, while his light provides background lighting of the cave formations.
This is a layer of red dust trapped in the cave formations. It has been traced to dust storms in the SAHARA DESERT in Africa that blew all the way across the Atlantic and covered the Bahamas in geological history. Kind of like the 1930's dust bowl on steroids.
This little curly-tailed lizard kept begging for fruit scraps, and offering to save us 15% or more on our car insurance.
So today I'm taking a day off from diving (my wife made me promise to spend as much time with her as with Brian), then a couple more days of cave diving. Hopefully I will have some nice pictures/video to share when I get back.
