    Default Cave Diver Volunteering

I'm puttting together a presentation to go with the current economic study numbers to educate the public on just how much cave diving does offer in the way of community support outside the money aspect. I'd like to gather numbers on the amount of hours cave divers spend in community volunteer efforts on an annual basis.

Please feel free to add your comments on how you spend your volunteer time?
Working with other organizations, organizatizing efforts, sitting on boards, community outreach and education, etc...

Is this just Cave Diving related volunteer time, or all volunteer time (like including food pantries and homeless shelters)?

    Cheers,
    Jeff

If you volunteer in any program that helps a community in which cave diving occurs we would like that information. If you volunteer in any conservation efforts regardless of location please include that in the time calculations as well. For example: If you work at a nature center in your state which is conservation oriented this would be the type of time we are looking for. We mainly want data that shows how cave divers give back to the communities and/or conservation efforts.

    Thanks for asking for clarification.

I look to work in a couple days a year for clean up or park improvement efforts. Would certainly be more if I lived closer. I only get so many passes a year....

I am atypical, but I put in hundreds of hours a year.

A weekend a year for cleaning the Hudson River (25hr?) and picking up trash in parks/woods/trails- 20hr(?).

Sorry, most of my volunteer time is more community than ecology oriented.

    Wow, thats impressive.

Does that include time doing officer duties for the NSS/CDS or is it all elsewhere?

What about past history? Some, like me, were perhaps more active a few years back, then less active today, with plans to be more active in the near future.... and what about the nature of the activity? serving on the BoD or on a committee is not really helping the community of non-divers. or what if it's just dive-related, like attending a social and bringing the hotdog buns? I don't think travel time should count either...example: if I spend the afternoon helping to clean up along a river bank I don't get to count the two days of driving to get there and back as "volunteer time," or do I?
