Looking from the surface at Clearcut probably won't tell you alot as there isnt' alot of water movement on the surface. You'll want to look at Cheryl, Split, Trench, Cream, Go Between or Promise to get an idea of conditions.
I would guess they are horrible.
if sullivan is still taking on water it's toast.
anyone been up there lately?
I was there on the 5th (Cheryl, Clear Cut, Cream, Promise). All tannic. But a lot has receded in the last two weeks.
Water clarity has been improving daily. Have not looked at river sinks but Wakulla is looking better and some of the sinks south (Harveys, Hatchet, Etc) are improving.
I went up to Sullivan yesterday afternoon. The water is higher than normal, and very tannic on the surface. There does not seem to be a whirlpool of water over the entrance going in, and there may be some clarity improvements in the cave, but it did not look inviting to me. I also donated about 2 pints of blood to the mosquitoes. Take DEET, LOTS of DEET.

I have an old hand-drawn map that I got from Sheck...waaaaaay back in 1978 or so....showing most of the entrances in Leon Sinks, and it had a key at the bottom, showing that "if such and such are clear, these are clear as well"...and "if such such and so are tannic, all are tannic"...etc, etc....
It was called "Crawdady's Cave Map". Forrest, you may have seen it .
I'll try find it and scan it, if anyone has interest.
Don't know how accurate the water conditions similarities would be, 30-plus years later......lots of depletion in the Aquifer, as well as lots of pollutants, nitrogen, etc.
Basically all you need to do is look at any of the sinkholes with water movement on the surface, there are alot of inline sinkholes along Leon Sinks where flow is apparent.
That really only works on the eastern trunk. Anything south of Promise (River Sinks et al) will have influence from the western side, which has multiple dark water feeder tunnels which tend to pump out gross water even when everything else is clear. Cheryl is always a winner, as is Cream/Promise/all those.
