    Default Peacock Springs

    5/30/10

    Dove P1 Main Line to
    Cisteen Line.

Visibility 30-50' Water Temp 68-69 degrees.

Avg visibility around 40'. Slight tannic tint around WishBone Tunnels.

It cleared up after Cisteen. We continued on heading to the Crypt Line.

Definately a dark portion of Peacock. Very little traffic in these tunnels.

Depth changes significantly from the low 60's to the low 40's at one point.

A lot of unique features after Cisteen. Espically the Cathedral like arches.

Knotted line with Survey Markers from the last Survey (Poucher?) still in place.

Arrows marking direction to nearest exit but no distances.

Unique Double T located right at the exit to Cisteen.

Line has a tannic tint to it and blends in well with the wall.

Turned a little bit before the Crypt Line jump and headed back.

A short visit to The Well and showed Li P2 and the end the line.

    135 minutes
    3 minutes deco

We made 2 dives on 5/30. 1st was supposed to be as far up the peanut tunnel as we could go on 1/3s. We were hoping to Jump onto Olsen line and head for Challenge. (Pretty Aggressive Plan, but we didn't really care if we made it all the way)

I was brain dead and took off down the pot hole line. At about 250' it became obvious we took the wrong tunnel. I wrote a note to the rest of the team when we reached pothole, and everyone agreed we would head to Olsen as a new plan. It wasn't the dive we orignally planned, but a great dive anyway. Chris had never been all the way to Olsen so he was actually pretty happy about the dive. Anyway the viz was around 40' or so.

On dive 2 we wanted to head for Waterhole from Peacock 1. This time we actually found the peanut tunnel. The viz was also around 40', but it seemed to have more stuff floating around. Upon entering the Waterhole tunnel the Viz dropped immediately and just kept getting worse. I don't think I was trashing it because I was leading and it was messed up before I got there. I turned the dive when the viz got to around 0'. I got no arguments from Chris as far as turning the dive goes. My first complete silt out. What do you know, all that stuff Bert taught me actually works. (Thanks Bert)

It was also pretty cool chatting with Jill between dives.

    Great day of diving.

As environmently bad as it may be, bring some insect repellent. The mosquitos were swarming.

Today it was like the place was deserted. We saw one other team in the water.

We headed out from P1 down the Peanut tunnel and then turned left toward Challenge. We turned on gas with about 350 feet to go. Headed back the way we came for a total dive time of 114 minutes including stops (optional, but safe).

Second dive we headed over to the well line, got to the end really taking our time going slow. On the trip back we headed off to the side and took the other well and rejoined the well line. We reversed and headed back out the way we came in through the other well. I love this area, we really took our time in there with a total run time of 80 minutes.

Just to clarify (since I don't recall seeing any official notice): Has P1/OG officially re-opened to "cavern" diving since the spring flooding?

The website doesn't seem to indicate it's currently closed for cavern diving, but I don't recall it saying it was "re-opened."

    Thanks.

Dunno about an official answer... but its been clear lately. They'd be turning away cavern divers for no reason if its still closed to them.
