    Default Wayne's World(School Sink)

John L and I did a sidemount dive there at about 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, April 5th. I was hoping for better visibility than Lonestarfl and I had when we dived it on Monday, March 27th, but it was not to be.

As soon as we dropped down into the first room, we were met with heavy tannic water and about 15' visibility. It did not improve much as we negotiated the shortcut tunnel to the snap-and-gap at p300'.

We proceeded west down Mainstreet and detected no noticable flow. The halocline was at about 90', so we had to deal with that for much of the swim down Mainstreet.

When we reached the "T" in the line, we took the right fork because John had never been that way before and it had been several years since I had.

About 100' down that tunnel, John plowed through a tight, silty restriction and completely blew it out. I was unable to find my way through it, so I backed up and turned around and waited for John to return.

We returned to the "T" and decided against going down the left fork. We returned to the snap-and-gap and the shortcut tunnel.

By the time we exited into the basin, we had been down for 58 minutes. We made 2 decompression stops(5 minutes at 20' and 10 minutes at 10'), then we surfaced.

The gas mix used was EANx 32.

    Titen:

I was surprised to discover how tight and nasty it was, even with sidemounts. John L was far enough ahead of me when he went through it that I didn't get a chance to see the line placement. I kept bumping into solid limestone and couldn't find a big enough opening, so I backed off. I swam that "bat tunnel" several times several years ago with backmounts and never had to plow through a tight restriction to get there. Either the line has been re-routed or that section of tunnel has filled up with silt over the years. I'm going to check it out again during a solo dive. I prefer to dive certain areas of that system solo anyway.

Frank, i can agree with you. My most calming and relaxed dives in Waynes World have been solo. There are alot of side tunnels and jumps down mainstreet that I keep making a mental note of to check out I just dont get out there and dive enough. I have gone alot of places in waynes world backmount that were deamed to be sidemount only, and to my knowledge only me and 1 other person were the only ones to go down them in backmount. and i dont feel like doing it again haha

    Lee:

You won't have to do that long, nasty 1500' circuit on our future dives there. It'll be straight down the shortcut tunnel to Mainstreet from now on.

    Titen:

My personal best in Wayne's World is a solo stage down Mainstreet to p2800' via the long circuit route before the shortcut tunnel was discovered. With about 1200' cut off of that now, it's a very doable 1600' swim there now. To my knowledge, the line continues west towards the Gulf for several hundred more feet beyond that before further exploration was stopped.

I've been very disappointed with the visibility during the last 3 dives there, considering it hasn't rained in the area for about 40 days.

Few hundred? Nope. Try a few thousand. Alex Warren just got back into WW and apparently laid some more line headed due west... That bastard...

One day with more expierence I'll have balls as big as that guy... one day... 8)

Hey Jay, I was in sidemount, Frank was in backmount. That restriction was snug in sidemount. I had to turn sideways and wiggle and pull to get thru it. I knew when I came to it, that if I went thru, I would blow it out, because there was alot of silt on the ledges, and it did not look like anyone has been thru there in a while. It was fun for me, I got to see it going in.

    John:

Shame on you for saying that I was in backmounts. You helped me unclip my sidemounts after the dive, remember? You're not starting to get dementia, are you?

After you telling me how you had to twist and turn your way through there, I can see why I couldn't find the way in with zero vis.

    Tegg:

The old stick map that I have of Wayne's World before the shortcut route was discovered shows the westward line ending at about p3600'. I assumed that no further exploration in that direction had been done since then because I hadn't heard about it, nor have I seen an updated map anywhere.
