Can someone recomend motels in Live Oak? Any ones to stay away from?
Since motels are not cave diving related, it isn't against Rule #6
However, don't even mention anyplace that caters to cave divers, that would be against rule #6.

I would only recomend the motels that bank 32. Other than them, aren't they all pretty much the same... a pair of beds, a bible and a coffee potOriginally Posted by FW

Nope. I found it was better just to go to Lake City and take the back roads into Luraville, High Springs, Suwannee River stuff depending on your destination that day. Motel 6 is okay, family oriented on the pool-side and priced right @$45. There are four chain motels in Live Oak near I-10. One is a newer Holiday something or other - you can find it on line - and too rich for my blood at ~$90/night. Of the other's (I forget the names) one is over-priced @$70/night. The other is slightly less expensive@$65 but also EVERYTIME I stayed there were suspicious looking men on cell phones - outside - while 'someone' was inside. It was looking too 'business-like'. There is a fourth nearby that looks 1/2 abandoned and it was too scary to stay in and I'm not easily intimidated. At the very least my gear would've been stolen.
I do know that there is an older couple that rents out a cottage near Live Oak which I drove by once and it looked nice. They do not necessarily cater to divers but are (coincidentally) members of the diving community. I can never remember the name. I would give them a shot. TJ or John Mc might remember their names. All the rest that I know about definitely cater to the dive community and as you know are equally fine establishments.
Out of curiosity, why consider motels when there is the option of the other places that do cater to cave divers and you probably would feel better at leaving stuff around (read gear, car keys, whatever...) w/o feeling that it might be stolen or that your personal safety might be an issue?

I do go to places that cater to divers. It's just that when I go diving, I usually go for 2-3 days and sometimes would rather pick a 'centralized' location for several cave systems.Originally Posted by amphipod06

Suwannee River park has camping and cabins that can be had very cheap. They are only a year old and within a mile of Cathedral. Also Suwannee River Music Park has camping too and cabins. They are slightly more out of the way but they are on the river. A great place to launch a boat from. Anybody think of organizing another spring canoe trip? There are some great river caves in that area. Cindy![]()

We rent out to only cave divers.

I can't find an emoticon of me sticking my foot in my mouth. Will poking myself in the eye suffice?
Angie,
That is not necessary.
Have a great weekend,
