    Default Dpv opinions

Looking at getting a dpv primarily for use in caves.Wanted to know what everyone's opinions were on different dpvs that are out there and what your using now and why you like or dislike it.I keep finding myself looking at the uv-26 with the life 40 batteries.i like the way this dpv feels in the water as apposed to the xjoy 37. These are the only 2 I have had time to try. other people I dive with use the Magnus and vipers but tend to agree they are more squirle than the uv-26...any input would be greatly appreciated...thanks

While the UV-26 is more stable, it is also heavy to haul to/from the water. I have a viper, and found that if I adjust the towrope properly, the torque isn't an issue. The UV-26/40 does have an impressive range, though. I tried a Genesis, and it is reasonably stable too.

    (1) Buy a used Mako.
    (2) Put 50+ cave dives on it.
    (3) Do you need more range now? If yes, sell Mako, buy used UV-26.

The weight of the uv-26/40 is the only thing that Sucks it's 93lbs with the lead acid and 70lbs with the life batteries

Daedalus is spot on. Used Mako or Tekna DV100. Fast enough. Nice and light. Long enough range for quite a bit of diving. Dirt cheap.

I love my Viper. Torque is is a non-issue plus it's light with great range.

Price doesn't even make the top 5 for my recommendation.

    (1) Limited range keeps you out of trouble while learning.
    (2) Limited speed keeps you out of trouble while learning.
    (3) Limited depth rating keeps you out of trouble while learning.
    (4) Smaller size is easier to maneuver underwater while learning.
    (5) SLA batteries taper off rather than quit, letting you know you were pushing your scooter runtime.

Great points!!!! It has always been said but forgotten, duration of burn time is more critical than speed. Speed has become a driving force for some reason.
