Default Muyil area caves officially open for diving

By order of the Chunyaxche Ejido the Muyil area caves are officially open for diving. THERE IS NO CAVERN DIVING OF ANY KIND IN MUYIL, only cave diving.

Entrance fee is 150 pesos for full day access to all Muyil caves, fee must be paid to Filogonio Kau at Siconsa mini super market located directly across the street from the Muyil ruins entrance.

Muyil area caves include Sistema Nohoch Pek and Sistema Caterpilar home of the amazing Ho Lee Sheet tunnel.

PLEASE NOTE: Cenote Doggi is NOT included, Doggi is on private land and fee for Doggi MUST be paid at Protec Tulum and cannot be paid on site.

Any info on these systems (photo, video, maps)? We're taking our first trip to tulum next week and being guided by Protec. Are they worth asking to dive there ?

Caterpillar is awesome! So is Doggi. But they are delicate systems with lots of formations. Dive responsibly.

You dive with protec: they have all the information. No worry about it.

Caterpillar is great: sidemount. You can spend a lot of dives here.

Maybe we will meet you: from 22.12 til somewhere in january we are in Tulum. We stay also at Protec.

    Have a nice time.

it was never "free" it was just that the Ejido did not really know that people were diving there on a more or less regular basis. I have been exploring in the area on a regular basis since 2010 and my team and I had to get permission from the Ejido to dive the area.
So now that they see many divers there the Ejido wants a piece of the action, which is fair I think. If you dive Caterpilar without paying the fee at the Diconsa mini market, all that will happen is that they might ask you to pay when you come out of the dive, from what I gather.

I have nothing to do with this I am only relaying information that the Ejido told me, I was there for the past 2 weeks exploring and they asked me to let divers know.
In all honesty Caterpilar is well worth 150peso (11 bucks) to dive, it is a cave that will blow your mind, I know because I explored there and found the Ho Lee Sheet tunnel, 3 years later my mind is still blown by that and i really recommend that dive.
We recently have found a cool new entrance way downstream, Cenote Bajada, on the opposite side of the road, and we added about 3 kilometres of new line in massive ultra decorated Caterpilar style power cave.

One thing to note, although in many many dives there we never have had a car got broken into I would not bring anything valuable, it is in a desolate quarry so it is a possibility.
