Service Level

I was at Ginnie yesterday and a guy approaches us asking where we get our gas; I said Wayne's.

He then gives us a couple of business/voucher cards indicating a $10 gas credit each and we should give them a try.

Today I tried to use said voucher and was told to try tomorrow as the guy at the counter didn't know how to deal them. Upon stating it was our last day diving and tomorrow didn't work, he said the cards were no good as they had not been signed. He the intimidated that the guy giving them out would soon not work at the shop in question.

My thoughts about giving away vouchers that don't count for jack, and short/hot fills are below.

That's some fancy, one-handed camera work!

Don't start a pissing match!

Kohler is now in the dive business? Talk about a royal flush!

Business 101: Make sure one hand knows what the other is doing-if you create a policy or change make sure everyone knows about it and how to deal with it.

Quickest way to gain a new client is with excellent customer service. The quickest way to lose 10 more just by word of mouth is bad customer service.

The question begs, which shop is giving gas cards away and not honoring them. And who is Kohler?

Just stay with wayne!!!!

It was posted in the photo, but the photo was quickly removed. I suspect the mods felt it wasn't appropriate (understandably).

Lesson: Just stay with Wayne. Dive more, post less.

The picture was removed at the OP's request. I believe the issue has been sorted out, more or less. Although I do feel sorry for the poor soul who has to remove the card from the "Kohler". I hope that'll be the same person who handed out the card without signing it and not some innocent bystander :-)

I requested the image be removed as I felt my message was receiver loud and clear. One of the owners and also manager of the dive shop have contacted me and offered to refund the cost of our fill, make good on the gas credit and offer additional credit in future.

The person that I know about that contacted you was the employee who didn't know about the cards. Sorry you encountered this mixup in your short dive trip here.
Thanks for dropping that item off. Enjoy Mex.

Just curios, what was the name of the dive store? Is there a new store in cave country?

Here's a play-by-play to (attempt to) clear this up, without trying to guess what anyone's motives were or anything:

A representative of a dive shop in cave country that is several years old approaches a cave diver and offers a discount fill card. Said cave diver goes to the shop and because of a misunderstanding, is told the card is worthless. He then throws the card in a urinal (hence the "Kohler" logo) and snaps a photo. Cave diver is contacted by store staff and the misunderstanding is cleared up. Cave diver contacts CDF moderator and photo is removed, but post is left as a reminder for shops to always take care of their customers.

My imagination was WAY more interesting than the truth. :?

Me too, but I've lived here for too long to expect anything verging on normal. I am pleased to here that it all got worked out without gunfire, drunken fistfights, or legal threats....

P.S. None of that would have been surprising either.....

Can't find any Kohler dive shop in the www.. just some references to Urinals.. ;)

it sure would be nice to have when traveling through Europe, Brazil, or many of the Asian countries I've been where you must actually pay to use a urinal, even when a customer of the location that is the owner of said urinal. I was in a department store in Amsterdam and we had to pay - I couldn't believe it. From department stores to gas stations to public urinals (those in AMS are free ironically,) carry some $/€ or one of Damien's discount cards to use it.

When I was in Germany years ago it was that way. IIRC, it was 50 pfennig for a toilet. Not much, but without it you were out of luck.

I'd happily pay for a clean restroom!

I remember pay toilets that cost a dime - haven't seen one in years. I'm with Greenwood_60; I'd rather pay for a clean restroom than have a filthy one for free.

Some of the Vermont state parks have pay showers that take quarters. They have cleverly timed them so that you have to spend at least 75 cents. One quarter will give you enough water to get wet and soap up. The second quarter will give you enough water to get almost rinsed off... :) Still worth the money, especially the few that have hot water.

It's not just a matter of paying, most facilities have human attendants (to keep things clean). In Germany and elsewhere, I think it's considered a 'normal' job. Not sure that'll fly in the States (outside of some clubs and related establishments).

This conversation reminds me of a sad story "Here I sit all brokenhearted, paid a nickle to poop but only farted..."

So next time I took a chance, saved my dime and sh!t my pants!"

Boy this thread is swirling down the bowl quick.

Overseas I saw a sign for free bathrooms. No charge to do your business. That's when their business starts and they charge you by the square....

You said it.. years ago ;)
No more Pfenning since more than 14 yrs now

I miss the marks and pfennings. I still carry around a 10pf coin just for the heck of it.

10pf coins make good guitar picks.

I do not have any of These coins anymore..

There's actually some interesting history behind this here in the states. They used to be common, but then the Committee To End Pay Toilets In America helped make them much less common. You can't make this stuff up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Committ...ets_In_America

I absolutely love how a thread can start on one topic and continue right on to another. :clapper Just too funny :rollguy

White Castle (maybe it was Top Hat's) had pay restrooms, I think they were a dime. Not sure if they still do.
