Ed Grossenbacher. There's a name from the past. He laid a load of line in the Ejido Jacinto Pat (Dos Ojos) exploration project in 1996. I never heard anything about him after that. What's the date on the map?

I rather doubt it's a grade 5 map - that is almost impossible to do underwater, and certainly not 12000 feet on open circuit.

Someone has their grades confused or they're not using the British Cave Survey grades:

I'd be interested in hearing why they thought it was grade 5.

I will have to verify the date on the map, (just put it away) but I believe it said 2002..... standby for confirmation.

I think most surveyors are nerds, Jon.

OK.... sorry guys, I misread the map. It is a 3c (damn 3 looks like a 5). The only date is 2002 and that is a printed date also says v.3.0.

See post #17, John took the time to respond to the thread, and he carried through and restocked Cathy. That is where I picked up the map.

That said... If you do this dive please be careful. Navigation is a nightmare. Many 3 and 4 way intersections. I marked both sides of my jumps with a marker with an L on what I thought was the luraville side ant a T on the Telford side... And then ran out of markers, at which point I scratched ls and ts into other markers, blackened by tannin.

This is very unforgiving. Planning, pre placing gas on the Telford side and patience (it takes 3 setup and 2 breakdown dives to execute the crossing) are key.

That said, I did it open circuit. Ccr would make things a little easier.
Thanks for the additional info. I have been slowly working up to this traverse, but going the opposite direction. I am still limited by my 2 BO tanks thus far and have not gotten to the point of taking stages. I always figured that I would go as far as possible with my rEvo and then be forced to turn because of it becoming sidemount only accessible. Will a backmount ccr go the distance?

    Wow,

Ed Grossenbacher was a name that appeared regularly during the 1996 Jacinto Pat (Dos Ojos) survey. Without going into great detail, the '96 project found underwater cave.

Ed also did some work in the Siphon side of Sistema Dos Ojos and the Nohoch Nah Chich cave area. The siphon side of Dos Ojos was resurveyed recently. I could do a search in the QRSS archives to document what Ed helped to explore and survey. Apparently he was active in QRoo within just a few years.

The survey project that the 1996 Jacinto Pat Project (Dos Ojos) conducted is not a Grade 5 survey. Real maps were not published, just a stick map (line plot) of dubious accuracy. Are there any takers for a large resurvey Dos Ojos project that might generate a better map in this area? We would sure work with you on this!

    Jim
