Say hi to Ron, Ian, Roberta and all the other for me, Wes. My sincerest wishes for peace for your family.
Land of Enchantment -- not so great for cave diving, but mighty scenic!
so sad. he was a nice man, what little i knew him in real life, and of course a giant in underwater & underground images. i'll think of him whenever i think of jameson's name - he's my little karst production.
proud cave tourist!
I have just e-mailed the Governor of Florida, Charlie Crist, and asked him to consider an appropriate way of honoring Wes and his contributions to Florida, particular to the springs we all love. If anyone else wants to do the same, you can e-mail him at Charlie.Crist@myflorida.com
If anyone knows a better way of contacting the Governor or appropriate person for this, please post. Thanks.
My sincere condolences to the family.
Incredibly sad and terrible news. My condolences to his family and friends.
I met Wes years ago at a retirement party for a Gainesville Sun photographer friend we had in common. At that point I was not doing any cave diving but as a photographer I was amazed at the work that Wes was doing.
Wes not only contributed to the cave diving community in terms of safety and conservation but he was the first person to creatively bring the world of Florida underwater caves to the general public with his great use of still and moving photography, going where no one had before and using studio type lighting in the craziest of places.
He is my inspiration for underwater photography.
Attached is a photo I took of Wes at Wayne Kinard's wedding last year and it is a smiling, adventurous Wes that I will remember.
My thoughts and prayers go to the Skiles family as well as Wes' Karst family.
