Default Seventh Annual CDF Social - December 31

We will once again be holding our annual Cave Diver's Forum Social at the Little Devil Pavilion at Ginnie Springs Outdoors, on Wednesday, December 31, 2008. We will start setting up in the morning, and will serve a traditional picnic lunch of burgers, dogs, and whatever else someone decides to bring. Plus, we'll be drawing for door prizes donated by shops far and near. (If you're lucky, you'll walk away with one of the T-shirts I'm bringing down from both Planet Ocean Scuba and Chattahoochee Scuba, in Columbus, Georgia!)

The annual Great American Scooter Race will be held in the Little Devil spring run. If you think your scooter's fast, now is the time to earn bragging rights. Plus a beautiful trophy!

In the afternoon, we'll be breaking things down and moving over to the Ginnie Pavilion, in preparation for the Galaxy Dive at midnight. We've been trying to perfect our cyalume technique, and I believe we hit it last year, so get prepared to be amazed. (If there's any food and charcoal left over from the picnic, don't be surprised to see Bob K making use of a grill!)

The Ginnie staff are again doing their part to make our social a big success. In addition to donating pavilion space, ice, and firewood for a bonfire, they are offering all CDF Social attendees a special package - you can dive all day Wednesday and all day Thursday for the price of one day's entry - $22.00 if you're cave certified. This will be an added incentive for those who want to come just for the Galaxy Dive; you can dive the next day for free!

Don't be left out. Mark your calendar now for the Seventh Annual Cave Diver's Forum Social, Great American Scooter Race, and Midnight Galaxy Dive, December 31 at Ginnie Springs Outdoors.

So we'll have an idea how much food to bring, and how many to expect for the Galaxy Dive, send me a PM and tell me how many will be in your party for each event.

(Don't try to find an umlaut to spell my name - just click on my screen name above my avatar and choose "Send a private message to Slüdge.")

    Bump!

If you're planning to attend and haven't done so already, PM me your RSVP, including the number in your party. (This also means you, moderators!)

We're eight days out. We have fewer than 35 people RSVPed. We don't want to run out of food, so if you're coming, let me know!

It has been brought to my attention that we should stress that our Galaxy Dive will be 100% ecologically sound. We would never condone anyone littering the cave with broken glass or plastic lightstick casings.

Also, Piranha Diving has made a generous donation for our Social Picnic. We encourage members to patronize this business, as they plan to make another donation to our next social, based on sales to CDF members.

Several moderators have been procuring donations for door prizes at the social. I don't have a list but I do know that one donation is a Hollis dive computer, donated by Dayo Scuba.

So food, fellowship, a scooter race, door prizes, more food, a Galaxy Dive (ecologically sound), and rumors of a keg of beer, not to mention a big bonfire if it's cold enough (firewood courtesy of GSO). Plus, you'll get to see how well Governor Palin's drysuit fits me. Why would anybody not want to attend?

Okay, people, we're less than 48 hours out, and some names are conspicuous by their absence from the RSVP list.

Walter, aren't you coming? And what about you, Curt? I thought at the CDS Workshop you said you'd be there.

Jim, I have your Dan Brown book I borrowed in July. Since I don't know how to get to your house, you need to come to the social if you ever hope to get it back. But you were right; it was much better than that other book he wrote.

Jill Heinerth hasn't decided for sure if she'll be back from Canada in time, but she's going to try. I know a lot of people want her to autograph her book for them. Bill Oigarden, the other editor, will be there, as well as several other contributing authors.

Above all, if at the last minute you find you can make it, even if you didn't RSVP, come on! I'm sure we'll have plenty of food!

For those planning on racing, the scooter race will be at noon. Setup for the social will start around 9 AM, grill should be heated up and running by 11 AM, keg will be there when it gets there

Please disregard what I said about getting copies of your book signed.

    Thanks, CDS instructors.
