    Default Manatees at Ginnie

We camped at Ginnie this weekend and was kayaking the river.Paddled across to July spring and there were two Manatees there. One got spooked and swam to the tannic river but the other one was almost tame and paid us no mind while eating hydrilla.Later that evening they came over to the eye and the shy one hung in the tannic barely visible, but the other one let kids with masks swim with it and a few of them touched or rubbed it.I wasent diving till Sunday due to excessive Coronas and never saw or heard of them then. The one had some nasty scars on it,but so peacefull a critter I ever saw.

They've been there for a few weeks. I was fortunate enough to be starting a dive when the tame one came up the run. It tip-finned around the Eye about 10' away from us and then headed back to the river. We were just hanging out under water with it for about 2 minutes.

Yes, it was great to see them this week. I got a hundred images or so and uploaded one that's kinda nice:

I love the look on this one.

I saw one coming out of the eye late Friday night. I hadn't seen one in a few years. Always cool to see these beasts.

Bill, nice meeting you this weekend.

I didn't see the ones at Ginnie. Haven't been there in a few months. But I have done a few visits to Crystal River. Each time was a different experience swimming with such a unique mammal.

I saw the big one too and was wondering: 'Do they taste good with mint sauce?'

They're not bad, a little more chewy than Bald eagle, but definitely tastier than Great Pandas. I would pass on the mint sauce, and go with a good Thai peanut sauce, and a glass of white wine.

Darn, now I'm geting hungry. Where did I put my Canadian baby seal club???
