Default Help Setting Up Bottom Timer

    Hello,
This is my first post on CDF. I am at work and am a teacher so many sites are blocked (surprisingly this one isn't) so I can not find a page I had a couple of weeks ago.

Simply, I am trying to tie my 3/8 bungee cord through my DSS mount for the OMS Bottom timer I bought, and want to make sure I am doing it PERFECTLY. Does any one have or know of a step by step with pics for threading and tying off the bungee?

I saw that some use a set of zipties and do NOT like to use them when at depth.

    Thank you,
    Ron

There should be holes in the following order-

    OO---OO

I have a loop going into both outside holes and then (on top) they come back down into the inside holes. From there I just tied a knot. I use mine in a drysuit, so it's held well even with the expansion. Might not be the perfect way, but can attest to the fact that it works.

    I hope this was clear?

it IS clear and so i have one other question ... do you have it side ways with one bungee on the right and another on the left or up and down so one continuous bungee with only one knot? total?

(holes on the left and right or top and bottom)

    thanks

None of your students will give you an anonymizer? Whenever I want to get onto eBay or something, I just go to one of my nerds, and they always have a list of sites that get around the school district filter. (They only work for about a week or so, as the IT department stays about two steps behind them; that's why the kids keep a list.)

    www.logmein.com

    Just access everything from home.

We use their logmeinrescue for work, it allows us to send a client an email with a link, they click the link, and we instantly have access to their PC. None of this trying to walk someone through doing things who's completely computer illiterate. Takes a 1 hour phone call and cuts it down to 5 minutes.

Also with 3g wireless cards coming down in price, I'd consider those. I have an iphone and 3g card for work now and love not relying on other's internet service, but I'm not sure I'd pony up the $$$ for them if work didn't pay for it....I bet you give it two years and their dirt cheap, just like cell phones. Just within the past year the service quality has went from poor to near perfect, I can even get 3g at most dive sites!

    logmein is blocked.

I have internet on my phone, but the screen is so much smaller than a real monitor. I can use if for The Deco Stop and such, but for surfing eBay, I like a real monitor.

Some of the anonymizers that have worked for several weeks before they got blocked are:

    www.spykid.info
    www.zoneweb.110mb.com
    www1.gaozu.net
    www.xoriente.com

I used to have a bunch more, but they all got erased from my history.

Here's some detailed directions I put together for doing my DSS SK7 mount. It's basically the same thing for the BT mount:

Now the fun begins. The DSS boot doesn't come w/ any bungee cord. I ordered 3/16" from TDL along with the boot. I got 4' just to have extra laying around. The holes in the boot are tight for 3/16". I found the easiest way to thread it was to cut the end of the bungee, and then use my fingers to fray the ends of the cord covering. Just take your finger nails and pull the covering off the end. I would do this so you would have ~1/2" of the frayed cover sticking out past the ends of the little tiny elastic strings that make up the bungee. You could then use the combination of a small push rod and needle nose pliers to push the frayed end through the hole. You then use the needle nose pliers to pull the frayed covering through and then use a small screw driver to tuck the elastic string bundle into the hole and pull through w/ the pliers. Once you do this a couple times you get a system and it gets easier.

The directions show several ways to rig the bungee, and it was a little confusing. I ended up making two independant loops, that did not cross each other. I threaded it up from the bottom through the farthest outside hole one each side, down through the innermost hole and tied a half hitch to keep it from pulling back through. I used a lighter to melt the ends of the covering. There's just enough room in the slots on the back side to get two knotted ends in there.

It takes a little work to get the length of the bungee's just right. I threaded it through the two holes on one side and tied a knot, and then threaded it through only one hole on the other side. I left ~4 inches extra length sticking out of the one hole side. I put it on my wrist and pulled the extra length end to the right tension and used a white crayon to mark the bungee length. Remove from wrist and thread the extra length down through the second hole on the inside. You then have to thread more of the bungee through both holes (making the wrist loop smaller) so you can tie a knot in the end at the right place. That's why the crayon mark helps, as you know where you have to end up. Cut the excess, burn the ends, pull the bungee back through the holes (making the loop large again) and tuck the knot in the recess in the back. Congratulations, you're done with one side. Repeat the process for the other side. Plan on spending about an hour playing with this for the first time.

    Hope this helps,

    John

Hmm, in your case I'd suggest running a proxy server from your home computer, and then using a free service like http://www.no-ip.com/ so that when your IP changes, you can ping it, get/update the address, and keep surfing. This would mean they'd have to update their records every time your IP address changes, and I doubt they're THAT on top of it.

Back when I was in high school, we could simply use a flash drive with a self contained version of firefox, and a free proxy server, and never had issues. Of course they also used VNC on each computer with the password "password", so most of my time was spent screwing with people's computers...If that level of security is what's involved in IT, thank god I'm in that major, getting a job should be easy

I wear mine long ways for that exact reason. I also prefer to wear mine on top of my wrist, because when dry suit squeeze kicks in, I find it easier to read. If I'm just free diving and want to get a depth measurement I wear it on the bottom of my wrist......I've seen several divers wear it like this while diving too.
