Default What the latest Status of the Cave Systems

Beside the road work at Peacock and the usual conditions at Ginnie are there any other systems diveable in the Luraville, Live Oak, Chiefland, etc. area. Don't have enough time to travel to Jackson.

    Thanks

I received this report from John Naschek today. John is one of the NSS-CDS safety officers for Little River.

    Jim,
Freddy (Meng-Tze)and I dove Little River to check conditions. We noted the following:

    - The flow is up moderately. We estimate 25% plus.
    - The Gold Braid was verified as far as the Well Casing. While we corrected any buried sections, continued settling will occur. Divers should be particularly alert for this situation after the Dome Room.
    - Visability varies.
1)There is now silt in the spring basin itself. Swimmers spalshing around make the viz problematic.
2)The cavern was about 20ft. and we were first in.
3)From the base of the chimney to the 2nd T about 30+.
4)Florida Room drops to 10 to 15 maybe.
5)Dome Room to the Well Casing under 10ft.
    - Personal Observations. If you plan to turn before the Florida Room, the cave is okay. You can see and have an enjoyable dive. To dive beyond the Florida Room is pointless, all you can do is follow the line.

I will try to dive some of the side tunnels later this weekend and will send you an updated report.

    John Naschek

Still the same conditions as Jim mentioned on 04/26. Vis about 25-30 feet (slightly tanic). Flow up still. Once past the chimney it was a bit easier. Didn't quite make it to the Florida room but the vis was OK in the Serpentine tunnel. Lots of poofy silt on the rocks and sticks etc were stuffed in some of the holes.

Agree. We had a nice dive UP TO the Florida Room.

    Thanks!
