Any new battery developments for Lead acid Mako's and SS'es?

Since we are talking scooters this week, is there any new or better lead acid batteries for the Mako's and SS's? What are people using for the latest batteries and where did you get them?

I overheard someone talk about a high quality battery for a Mako/Oceanic this weekend.
Maybe a NIMH, not sure. Call Steve Gamble, that's where they got it.

I have the Powersonic PSH-12180FR batteries in my Mako and its too heavy for freshwater. Just barely neutral for salt. But they do have more juice than the Oceanic battery. Personally, I'm not sure a Mako is worth spending the $$$ on for NiMH.
