    Default Air Conditions

Need a report on air conditions in cave country (N. Florida). How bad is the smoke from the fires? I'm in Orlando and getting white ash on my cars in the morning and it is miserable to breathe outside. I'm thinking of coming up to High Springs, or Luraville on Sunday. What is the air quality there as of now? Surface intervals could be a problem if there is a lot of smoke in the air. Any sites closed due to the fires like Madison Blue?

    Default Smoke

I was at Ginnie yesterday and it was pretty nice. I didn't really notice any smoke. It was pretty bad in Gville the prior day, but it is fairly clear today.

    Default Smoke and ash

Tuesday there was smoke at Ginnie. Wed and Thursay the area near Swannee River State Park was clear. Today Madison Blue was also clear. Driving home to Lake City tonight it looked like the town was on fire due to how the sky looked and all the ash. Someone needs to do a rain dance!

Any updates? Is the fire still going? Are any roads closed?

I was down in cave country last weekend. Janet got me worried on Sat when she told me that 75 had been closed. I was lucky enough that it was open for a few hours on Sunday afternoon so I made it out fine. I called the number below to get my info.

Florida has an automated phone service for traffic. Dial 511. For some reason I got connected to the Orlando area when I called from Luraville/Branford/High Springs area but after some yes/no/maybe I did get the report on North East Florida. The system is updated frequently.

Georgia has a system like that but you get to talk to someone. They will also give you info about 75 on the Florida side. I don't have the phone number on hand but should be easy to find on the web.

I don't suppose there is a way to call FL 511 from GA

Georgia'a number is *368 (*DOT) from your cell phone for statewide traffic info. If you are around ATL, you can ask them to look at the highway cameras and tell you exactly where problems are - they may have the camera around Macon now, I think I saw them going up on I-475 at some point in the not too distant past...
