    Default Troy Springs conditions

I am wondering if anyone has been to Troy lately and, if so, what are the conditions for OW diving? Specifically, I'm wondering about the visibility and water level and appropriatness for teaching part of an AOW class there next Sat.. Thanks.

Been there twice in the past 2 weeks..
Water condition, Pretty damn clear.. until ow students in it of course.. Level.. low.. madison sitting at about 2-4 feet.. can literally walk across it...
The cave has been reopened (1 year ago there was no chance of getting in) and i have stuck my head in a couple times over the past few weeks, there is a line back there, but it is very hard to get in without sidemount. But it is possible so be carefully of students near the entrance. flow out of the spring is ok.. not unberable..

With the water level as described above, sounds like the maximum depth would be 70 to 75 feet - just a guess based on a July trip. We hit 70, and there may have been another 5 feet somewhere.

    Safe diving,

75 was my max with about 30 feet into the hole...

    Ditto !
I had 72-73 feet over in the "back" corner near the rock pile (was doing some line drills over there on Monday).
    Vis was really nice too.
It's a little bit of a pain getting in with the river water level down. I didn't dare giant-stride off of the steps so I kind of skimmied my way in. Most were walking around to the side and getting in on the far side where the entry is sandy.

I posted in my conditions report..
WARNING! Algae has really grown up in troy, when entering be careful i slipped twice.. Luckily i only had a single 95 on or else it would have been really nasty.. Be careful where you step...

Default Thanks for the Troy info.

Thanks to all of you that responded to my question.

I was in the area yesterday and decided to go by Troy and check it out. Since they don't allow solo diving, I did a solo snorkle (which they do allow) just to look around and it was beautiful! I was the first person in it that day and viz. was greater than 75', as I could see every detail of the bottom in the deepest part from the surface.

Ya. My Name is Eric Lieberman.
75 is about the right once people start getting in it. I was the first one there 2 weeks ago and it was as you describe but once people start messing up during entry and kicking up that stuff it decreases. And also once the sun is positioned behind the trees the light starts to fade fast since the spring is kind of positioned lower then the parking lot.
