Question about Delta P and the Well Casing in Little River

I’m planning a dive to the well casing and the Last Room in Little River tomorrow (if conditions hold out.)

I had an important question for the forum. Is the “business end” of the well pipe exposed to the cave passage? Do we need to think about Delta P, differential pressure? I’ve seen all the videos about how dangerous / fatal Delta P can be for commercial divers. And after the cave diving fatality at Landenouse a few years ago I am extra paranoid.

Basically, I need to know if the well pipe was drilled all the way through the cave, and sucks up water from some passage below where we dive, or if it terminates inside the cave and could be dangerous if we get too close to it.

Landenouse is very very very different and has no comparison to anything at little river. I have never noticed anything odd around the pipe in little river. You?re concerned about a nonissue.

Edit: also my wife (works in local water resources) says the pipe goes deeper than the conduits we swim. It is used for ag use and water sampling and is active. But since it goes deeper its not syphoning anywhere near the depth we dive.

Good to know, thanks! I remember I was talking to an employee at Ginnie a couple weeks ago and he mentioned that he had helped geo-locate the site for the well for the landowner above. So I was curious if it was sucking water directly out of the conduit. I forget his name.

That well isn?t sucking water out of lr?! For almost 15 years I?ve been stopping there to see a man about a tank for naught?!

It removes water from the aquifer in that area but deeper than the cave conduit its in.

The LR well casing comes down through the ceiling and disappears into the floor. No opening or suction in the cave. I don't have any idea where the bottom end of it is, but there's no problem swimming near it in the cave.

To see the surface portion of the well. As you exit the parking lot onto the road. There is a gate on the right about 100-200 feet from the park gate. Follow the overgrown trail perpendicular to the road for about 1/4 mile. The well is sticking up from the ground to about 20 feet. The electrical wires exposed on the top have never been connected in the 20 years I?ve been going there. The well casing in the cave is 12 inch pvc in the middle of the tunnel going from top to bottom. The exposed land portion is about 24 inches in diameter. Happy hunting.

Wow! Good to know. So it’s not just a normal water well?
